The Coalition for Access to Psychotherapy (CAP) was convened in March 2013 by the Graham Boeckh Foundation and the Fondation Jeunes en Têtes (formerly Mental Illness Foundation) in order to work towards widening access to psychotherapy services as part of the treatment options available to people with mental disorders. This initiative stems from one of the recommendations made by the Health and Welfare Commissioner of Quebec (CSBE) in his report, published in December 2012, on the evaluation of mental health services. It is also based on studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of increased access to psychotherapy services and the advantages that it provides to the individual and to society as well as on the experience of other countries that have implemented such services.
CAP seeks to inform the public on issues surrounding access to psychotherapy services. It will also work with relevant government agencies on the development of strategies to advance this important dossier.
